My marketing director and my brand manager told me in February 2016 they didn’t see how the company could get along without me, and gave me the maximum raise the company could give (which wasn’t a hell of a lot, but it’s the thought that counts.) So feeling good about things, I decided to refinance the house, pay off some debts, etc.
Finally got the deal done in August, and in September 2016 the owner’s son, who was assuming control of the company, called and told me I was fired. After more than forty years on and off working for and with the company. He had decided to outsource my function (writing, copywriting of audiovisuals, print, company communications, social media, internet marketing, product descriptions, websites, etc., etc.) to an outfit in Pakistan who assured him they could handle the writing chores. His rationale was “people don’t read copy, anyway,” thereby dissing my entire professional life. It was such a blatantly ignorant remark I didn’t even argue; just said “see ya.”
A few months later my wife was diagnosed with lung cancer. Talk about your life taking a bad turn. Anyway, after four years of trying to find work, I wrote this song, thinking maybe the hundreds of thousands of people who are looking for work right now might relate to it.
Then I got ambitious and made this video to go with it. Take a listen; take a look. Hope you find work soon.
